Beschreibungen

Rolland Hein has woven together two of his passions--poetry and growing things--in a book that serves as both a Christian devotional and a gardening primer. The garden provides so many illustrations for life and growth for us as spiritual persons. Hein's illustrations are full of poignant quotes from such great poets as Simone Weil, Wiiliam Blake, Emily Dickinson, and John Updike. This book will serve as a tremendous resource for both seasoned and first-time gardeners. Included are a bibliography and recommended sources for gardening supplies.
Rolland Hein, professor emeritus from Wheaton College, also graduated from Wheaton in 1954. Having recieved a BD degree from Grace Theological Seminary and a PhD from Purdue University, he taught English at Bethel College, St. Paul, until 1970. His writings include
George MacDonald: Victorian Mythmaker and
Christian Mythmakers. He currently conducts a class in myth at the Wade Center on Saturday mornings. He and his wife, Dorothy, live near St. Charles, Illinois.
"The devotion of Rolland Hein both to gardenign and to the spiritual life gives focus to this gentle, unassuming view of them both. It is a book full of peacefulness and of 'green thoughts in a green shade.'"

Wishful Thinking: A Seeker's ABC and
Now and Then: A Memoir of Vocation
