Omar Fakhoury states in his book that the truth is neither bitter nor sweet, but rather has a special taste. For him, the Lebanese truth is inseparable from the Arab truth. Lebanon, with its diversity and moderation, was able to form a link between the East and the West, and a beacon of culture and the ABCs of innovation in many fields, which created what the author calls "Lebanese radiation." In light of the reshaping of the world map after World War II, a fundamental question arises: How do the Lebanese build a new homeland whose citizens are united and whose respect is imposed on others? Fakhoury provides answers that anticipate the future and create new horizons, based on a conscious reading of the past and the reality of the situation, in a sober, contemplative, inductive style, with patriotic meanings and devotion to the homeland.
عمر فاخوري هو أديب ومفكر وناقد لبناني بارز، ويُعتبر من رواد المدرسة الواقعية في النقد الأدبي الحديث وأحد أعلام النهضة في القرن العشرين. ولد في بيروت عام 1895، وتلقى تعليمه في الكلية العثمانية التي ساهمت في تشكيل وعيه القومي. انضم إلى جمعية العربية الفتاة وناضل ضد الحكم التركي، وكاد كتابه الأول "كيف ينهض العرب" عام 1913 يعرضه للإعدام لولا تدخل والده. استمر فاخوري في نضاله ضد الاستعمار بكتاباته في جريدة "الحقيقة" بتوقيع "مسلم ديمقراطي"، ودرس الصيدلة في المكتب الطبي العثماني حيث ألقى محاضرته الأولى. بعد انضمامه لحزب الاستقلال في دمشق، سافر إلى باريس لدراسة الحقوق، وأتقن الفرنسية وأثرى نفسه ثقافيًا وفكريًا. عاد إلى بيروت ليعمل في المحاماة وينخرط في الحركة الكشفية ويترجم العديد من المؤلفات، وانتُخب عضوًا في المجمع العلمي بدمشق. أصدر العديد من الكتب والمقالات النقدية، وكان ناشطًا في مكافحة النازية. توفي عام 1946 إثر إصابته بمرض اليرقان.
